April 6, 7 and 8

Anyone can draw with practice. We will focus on how this
influences the way we paint. David will review those basic
principles that some of us forget, even as advanced
painters. He will demonstrate how contour drawing can
simplify the way we see the landscape, and discuss how other
perceptual skills can be used to develop your individual
creative styles.
Be prepared to sketch and paint. Any paint medium is
acceptable. We will paint indoors and outdoors. Learn about
color mixing and blocking in. Excellent class!

Fast and Joyous, with Merry
Artoones, M.F.A., Maryland Institute of Art
April 20, 21 2013, 2 Day
Horse Sculpting Class with a live model
9:00 am - 3:00 pm, $330.00 model and clay fee
Let me introduce you to the
fun and exhilaration of working directly from model, a
horse, to produce a four legged standing animal that can
be popped into the kiln. We’ll use an amazingly strong,
resilient, and versatile cone 10 Paperclay. I’ll show
you the technical tricks of various internal and
external methods of support that help to create a
successful clay sculpture that will survive the kiln.
Along the way we’ll discuss the difference between
physical reality and psychological reality as it relates
to your sculpture. We’ll talk about planes and shadows
and symmetry and ways to make a sculpture sing or at
least cry “Uncle!” Beginner to Advanced…there’s
something to learn and share for all. And if the going
gets tough, I promise to sing… (that will truly make you
laugh or more likely beg me to stop!)
There is a clay fee; I will be bringing my favorite
IMCO Paperclay,
flyer for this class.
